Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Is it for the same reason that the American right-wing is opposed to the war? Or is he actually being reasonable?

Its probably because he has personal material interests in russia or viceversa. He is an oligarch and i seem to remember him hanging out with russian oligarchs a while back.

It’s because they don’t have neocon ideology entrenched in their brain folds. Liberal “center” has completely absorbed and adopted neoconservatism. Democrats, the EU, Labour in the UK, all the Green parties have all absorbed the neocon hawks happily.

So anybody who opposes those groups will often tend to also oppose their shitty neocon ideology, even if they don’t know why.

European right wing is nationalistic, they know that they are so integrated with the Russian energy sector and they're getting ripped off big time by buying US LNG etc. It's a real fissure for this emerging fascist international. If the Republicans get into power I'm doubtful of this non intervention faction going mainstream, they will likely be marginalized or simply change their propaganda to accommodate being in governance. The fever dream of spoiling the Russian Chinese relationship in hopes of isolating China seems very unlikely at this time.

I think it's partly because most of the european right wing spent the last 20 years sucking up to Putin. There is a liberal rumour that a lot of the nationalist parties in Europe (and anti-EU parties) get funding from russia, which I don't really know if it is true or not, but they did all suddenly seem to start liking the guy around the same time. Also they really liked him when he was flattening Grozny in the 2nd Chechen war, since that involved killing loads of muslims, which all euro rightwingers love. And then he made the extremely strict censorship laws against "globo-homo" content, and persecuted LGBTQ people, which european rightwingers ALSO would love to do. So it's probably mostly a combination of material interests and ideological similarity.

that was supposed to last a week but escalated after the West sent money and weapons to Kyiv.

Yea, this one make sense by how the Russian operated on the first 3 days. Basically by pass many cities and go straight to Kiev to threatening them to go into negotiation table. Then that got wipe off by US and UK

Russia - and everybody else - had good reason to think that Zelensky and Co would flee west as soon as tanks were within 100km of Kiev. The fact that they didn't was a maybe a bigger surprise than the invasion
