Next thread here!

Just an update on my situation: I'll almost certainly be moving within the next week or two. The last update for a little while will be next Wednesday, the 19th. I'm going to then take a break to set things up, get to know my surroundings and such. I hope to be ready to start doing this again on the 28th, but I will post that week's megathread on the 24th.

After that, I will hopefully be able to keep doing this more consistently and things will get less busy than they have in recent weeks. I strongly appreciate all the compliments I get and I'm glad to be part of such a great community! :Care-Comrade:

Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

I just realized the liberal insanity over Ukraine is from wanting to relive Iraq as the good guys

I hate having to be the one who remembers all the atrocities. You try to talk to people about the Iraq war or WWII or whatever conflict and they have no idea, so I have to dig up all the numbers and statistics and gruesome pictures of who was murdered and how many. I know. I took the time to learn. I hate them for not knowing, for presuming to have opinions about international conflicts that they only understand from western propaganda.

From the New York Times twitter account:

The Russian missile attacks that killed at least 19 people across Ukraine on Monday were wide-ranging, but they were not as deadly as they could have been. That has renewed questions over the quality of Russia’s weapons.

    :lenin-confused:

"The ruskies didn't even strike a single wedding! Are they incompetent or just low on missiles?"

I was specifically informed that Russia had run out of missiles and simply wasn't able to do this because their army didn't really function so I can only conclude that several hundred holographic missiles have just "struck" Ukraine in the biggest false flag incident known to man, in order for Zelensky to gain sympathy from the West.

As always, deep sympathies to the civilians of Ukraine - at least, the ones that aren't Nazis - who want nothing to do with this and would have fled the country earlier if they were allowed to cross the border. It's going to be a very, very bad winter in Ukraine.

If only Zelensky hadn't blown the Crimean bridge. If only he had made peace in Istanbul. If only the West didn't do regime change in Ukraine to install an anti-Russian leader. If only the Soviet Union hadn't broken up.

      You monster, we trust you.

In terms of waiting for hammers to fall, I imagine the europeans are watching for those occasional cold days starting to pick up. idk if this winter is going to be colder than normal or anything. :/

As long as we’re talking “if only”, another major one is if only Russia didn’t invade. Kinda weird you didn’t mention that one, my dude.

No hate, I appreciate these threads and the effort you put into them. But you kinda biased sometimes.

If only Ukraine hadn't been bombing ethnic Russians in the Donbass for the last eight years

Yeah, I think it's plausible to state that the Ukrainian invasion of Donbass had the possibility of devolving in to ethnic cleansing. Russia thought it was plausible enough to use it as their causus belli, not that anyone in the west believed that or cared.

If only NATO expansionism and US belligerence and broken Minsk agreements hadn't been provoking Russia in an obvious attempt to force them into a conflict hadn't happened.

If Russia didn't invade there would have been ethnic cleansings in the Donbass, Ukrainian fascists would have been emboldened and NATO would take over the Ukraine and be just as eager to provoke a war as they were before the invasion.

Westerners simultaneously justifying the atomic bombing of Japan and condemning Russia's conventional bombings as fascism is breaking my brain.

How the fuck does someone hold both of those positions simultaneously?

Ukraine's just putting Russian politicians and generals on the wanted list. Like Surovikin, the new general. And the dude who reads out the Russian MoD's daily summaries every day to a camera, the guy with the glasses.

You'll know I've made it when yours truly gets on the Ukraine wanted list.

Arestovich (one of Zelensky's closest advisors) has talked about the strikes today and has basically said "Well, it's not all doom and gloom, now Russia has less missiles to fire at us! Imagine how much money it took to make those missiles!" which is definitely the funniest take possible

My boomer dad's analysis of the war:

    • Russia bad!
    • Russians have never cared for human life!
    • Russia just grabs random people off the street and gives them two weeks of training before sending them to the front!
    • No Russians like the war or Putin!
    • Russian equipment is all bad and outdated!
    • Putin is crazy!
    • Russia can never win because NATO is much more advanced!
    • The USSR would have lost WWII had it not been for US aid!
    • They had no industry back then and they don't have any now!

It's amazing to see a brain that was broken by cold war propaganda from an early age react to modern Russophobia.

The response online to these attacks in the West is largely "How is this any different than what Russia has been doing this entire time?"

The West has reporting Russia's invasion as being absolute and everything they have is backfiring now that Russia is actually escalating. Western leaders will probably not be able to effectively convey the threat because, according to them, the threat has already been here since Feburary, and wasn't all that bad.
