Next thread here!

Just an update on my situation: I'll almost certainly be moving within the next week or two. The last update for a little while will be next Wednesday, the 19th. I'm going to then take a break to set things up, get to know my surroundings and such. I hope to be ready to start doing this again on the 28th, but I will post that week's megathread on the 24th.

After that, I will hopefully be able to keep doing this more consistently and things will get less busy than they have in recent weeks. I strongly appreciate all the compliments I get and I'm glad to be part of such a great community! :Care-Comrade:

Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

I hate having to be the one who remembers all the atrocities. You try to talk to people about the Iraq war or WWII or whatever conflict and they have no idea, so I have to dig up all the numbers and statistics and gruesome pictures of who was murdered and how many. I know. I took the time to learn. I hate them for not knowing, for presuming to have opinions about international conflicts that they only understand from western propaganda.

        "That's whatabboutism!"

My sibling in Christ you can theoretically do something about the atrocities being committed in your country in your name. There's nothing you can do about Russia or whoever the designated enemy is, but George Bush? Henry Kissinger? Hillary Clinton? They're all running around free in your own country and if you actually cared about this beyond jingoistic patriotism you'd be going after them and letting the Russians worry about Russia.

That said, idk what the fuck to do about them. Especially now that the fash have taken over the country. : p

      Fuck….that resonates. It’s 👽ating af.

Sometimes I think that all we on the western left actually accomplish is to bear witness. We are the chorus and Euripides himself couldn’t write a tragedy that matches the state of the world.

Right? Why do they get such strong opinions about shit they aren't even curious about? Who teaches them to do that? It makes nearly every discussion into a fight between people who read and people who assume the thing they heard on YouTube must be true and want to fight you for disagreeing.

It's so frustrating! They'll fight to the death for what they think is true but when you dig down it's just some bullshit they saw on a headline, or a half remembered piece of propaganda.

Some of them also get deeply offended if you point to some facts and resources, like you're being condescending for having your own position lol

Reminds me of that numbing rage I get over the total dismissal of the invasion of Armenia, and the countless atrocities committed against the Donbas republics for years now. These sacks of shit do not care one bit for human suffering, but they will cry genocide when a normal military operation occurs with minimal casualties, because they need it to be genocide, and they cannot deal with the reality that the "good guys" dont win with no losses save for a token tragic death or something. They are children, consuming war as media
