Ah for fucks sake my Minecraft stopped working altogether, like an update of Java did this. I can't launch the game anymore.

Hmm, dunno what to do there. It's a JNI error, I have to update my Java but I did yet it does nothing. I can't play from 1.17 upwards.. weird.
They updated the Java version used by the game to Java 17, but it should download its own Java runtime automatically.
Correct. I have tried updating my existing Java installation but to no avail, it is already up-to-date. I also saw that you can install Java 16 but it remains to same, something's fishy. I will try again tomorrow with renewed patience lol.
Not sure how it works with the vanilla client but if you use MultiMC or GDLauncher (clients for modpacks) you can set a specific java. So you can install openjdk17 from adoptium.net or wherever and use that
